Mistakes You Might Be Making If You Have Thin Hair

Mistakes You Might Be Making If You Have Thin Hair

It’s quite tricky to style your hair by yourself. Every morning before the coffee hits, we give all to design the hairstyles. Keep on adding gel, wax, and other products just in the hope of getting perfect hairstyles. Meanwhile, in the process, we forget that these products are going to hurt hair a lot. Can’t they?

While you might be thinking that you lack the skill to style hair or the products are not working, the fault could be in the hair type. But, how to be sure that the hair types are sabotaging the whole process? Check if you have thin hairs and you are trying to hold them. Since they lack volume, they are not going to hold easily due to skinny strands.

What Are Fine Hairs?

Fine hairs are the situation where the hairs keep on getting thin due to several reasons and they keep flowing here and there without getting stick to a single stroke of comb. They lack volume and hence can’t stay in a specific shape with follicles. Instead, they keep on falling flat every time you try to style hair. Fine hairs are the enemy of styling and they won’t last for a few minutes.

But, there are certain tricks that can even ease the styling of fine hairs. The people suffering from similar issues are going to love them as they won’t have to make the same mistakes every day. Yes, mistakes like using the products again and again in multiple layers to fix the hairs just because someone has told me to try that. It's completely wrong and could have been damaging them a lot more.

Here are some more mistakes all fine hairs persons must be making throughout their day-to-day life:

1. Pulling wet hair to style

We all come out of the shower and try to set the wait hair. It is highly tempting to pull back the wet hair to make a pony with the wet hairs. But, this can damage a lot to the thin strands. With more stress on the fine hairs, they are more likely to be break than usual.

If you still need to comb wet hair, the trick is to use scrunchie with a wide band. But makes sure to not get it too tight.

2. Putting up too much hair oil

You might be a fan of hair oil but individuals with thin must stop using too much hair oil. Although, it might make you feel nice yet the damage is of utmost concern. The hair oil is too heavy and the hair keeps on becoming flat and sticking to the scalp.

Better conditioning is an alternative to hair oil and is healthy for fine hair as well. Use deep conditioning masks to gain the lost health in hair and keep the oils away from your routine.

3. Avoiding styling products

It is a common misconception prevailing that styling products always damage hairs. There are some sprays and products available to make the hair look thicker. But again, these are to be used in a specific volume and must not be overused.

You can use the hair spray before blowing the dryer and that can be beneficial as well. It’s better than washing them and go out directly.

4. Avoiding hair color products

You have been avoiding the hair colors to protect them from any damage. But, it would come as a surprise that coloring your hair can do wonders for hair and thickness. The color in hair provides the illusion of thin hair and makes them look denser.

Hence, if you have stopped coloring the hairs, this is the right time to start it again but make sure to use it in a calculated manner.

5. Avoiding using conditioner

If you’ve been missing using conditioner to avoid getting your hair flat, you might be wrong. Conditioners are a prime source of moisture and your scalp needs them. Individuals having thin hairs must use any healthy conditioners to restore the lost moisture.

The conditioners focused to volumize the hair strands must be preferred over the usual ones.

6. Over washing of hairs

If the hairs are thin, it's better to avoid washing them regularly. It can make them thinner and increase the chances of breakage. Also, dry shampoo must be preferred over the usual shampoos to avoid more problems. After shower products in the powder form should be considered to provide more volume to the hair and easy blending with the thin hairs.

7. Avoiding consumption of multi-vitamins

The deficiency of vitamins is one of the prime reasons for fine hair and its damages. There are a lot of multi-vitamins available in the market that can provide the necessary hair or skin vitamins.

The hair loss or fine hair is also a signal of vitamin deficiency in your body and you need to cover up the same before the situation worsens.

8. Over usage of cover-up hair powder

The thinning hairs can start showing bald areas and many people prefer to cover up them using hair powders. They mimic the look of hair and it seems that the person has healthy hair. But, the problem is that the powdery substance remains stuck to the scalp causing more damage.

With the overuse of these products, the follicle is going to be clogged leading to more hair loss. Even if you want to use the same, once or twice a week is enough to get the best results in a healthy manner.

9. Over usage of hair extensions

Hair extensions are a very common alternative for thin hair problems. They can get the expected results with thick and fuller hairs but deep down the damage is caused to the attached real hairs. They put a lot of stress on the hair and can cause more hair fall.

If you decide to use the hair extensions, the best approach is to keep using them over a specific time duration break.

10. Getting fewer haircuts

The people with thin hair often presume that they should get fewer haircuts and that’s where the problem begins. It is advised to get a haircut on a regular basis as it provides strength to the hair strands. A clean haircut will definitely be a step to achieve fuller hair.

Make sure to visit the salon very often and stop avoiding it if you’ve been doing so in the past.

11. Usage of too many products

Some people with fine hair presumes that hair care needs all the products in the world. Based on this misconception, people end up putting everything in their hair and that becomes another problem. Gels, sprays, balms, etc. a lot of hair care products are being used on the hairs irrespective of their knowledge.

While you might be thinking that the products are doing good, they will end up damaging the hair more than ever before. The hair roots become weaker and are more likely to fall even with a smooth comb.

Choose a volumizing hair lifter to get the necessary gain without causing any damages. These products are used in the roots and not in the length of hair. Such products and proper dryer blowing can do wonders.

12. Wrong style haircut

The fine hairs are not normal and so their haircuts shouldn’t be usual as well. Haircuts can help a lot in improving the fine hair condition but only if they are done in the right manner. A bad haircut may cause skimpy strands.

Having too many layers in the hair makes them look like lacking volume. Hence, choose the volume-boosting hairstyles. You can ask for the best haircuts at the salon and make sure to choose the best suiting on your facial appearance and style. Try to keep the length a bit short with blunt ends.

Often the fine hair also looks good if maintained nicely. Now, it's up to you how you want to manage your hairstyle and try to explore some good-looking options. The dense fine strands can be maintained much easily with any usual haircut. But, that’s not the case with fine hair.

So, next time you go to the salon, tell them you have thin hair and let them suggest some of the best haircuts.

13. Overusing conditioner

When it comes to using conditioner, the confusion is right there. Whether to use it or not. As mentioned earlier, if you keep on avoiding the same you will end up losing moisture. So, it is not advised to stop using the conditioner permanently.

But, then how to use it? If you have fine hair conditioner must be used occasionally and must not be overdosed. A lot of usage of conditioner will weigh down the hairs and must not be used in the shower. It's the same as using too many products while hairstyling and is going to make them flat and stick to the scalp.

The correct approach is to use from the end avoiding roots. The conditioner must be used till the end of the hair strand and in minimal quantity.

14. Keeping long hairs

Avoid getting too long hair as they are more likely to get break easily. The correct length of fine hair is till the shoulder and keeping them short is going to cause less damage. The products are used in the hairs and won’t cause enough weight causing weakness.

Also, it helps in adding more volume to the roots. When the fine hair grows too long they tend to look more lifeless and hence we need to choose short haircuts with blunt ends. They look cuter as well.

15. Avoiding Scalp Care

While trying everything with the hairs, have you forgot about the scalp? It is an essential part of your hair care routine and should be considered as well. The shampoo must be scalp friendly and volumize the roots. This will increase the chances of new hair growth along with protecting the ones available.

The scalp scrubs are very helpful in this case. They will provide a deep and clean hair wash keeping the health of the scalp in check. The problem of follicle-clogging is also not there. Hence the scalp care is more likely to be of great help. Try to create a proper routine of using scalp care products as well.

16. Wrong usage of a blow-dryer

The blow dryer is a piece of very common equipment used on daily basis to style the hairs. Even the people having fine hair rely on the dryer for setting hairstyle and they are more dependent than the dense hair person. But, have you ever thought if it is being used in the correct manner?

Well, if not, then this is high time to start using it in the correct manner to avoid any damage. Apply some moisture or mousse and use the round brush to give bouncy look. Keep the dryer a bit far and do not focus it on a single spot for a long time. Just use the round brush and use it for a few minutes to get a better hairstyle without any chance of damage.
