Description
Are you looking for a gel that doesn't hurt your stomach and a taste that won't make you cringe?
Other gels on the market contain only simple carbohydrates, which can cause stomach upset because a high concentration of sugar empties into the intestines too quickly with nothing to slow it down.
Maurten has solved this problem by creating a gel that contains its unique hydrogel technology, which encapsulates those simple carbohydrates and enables smooth transportation into the intestine where water, salt, and carbohydrates are absorbed. This is slightly different from their drink mix, which requires the acidity of the stomach to form the hydrogel; the Maurten Gel 100 contains an already formed hydrogel and can be taken without water.
What does it taste like? When it comes to taste, Maurten has gotten it right. Other gels are known for being extremely sweet, syrupy and even chemical tasting. Often times the taste is so bad, it's hard to get them down without cringing or even gagging. Since Maurten gels use only a handful of natural ingredients, their gels have a mildly sweet, natural flavor that is not overpowering and goes down easy. I like to describe it as a light maple syrup or agave nectar.
From a technical perspective, traditional gels are water and carbohydrates simply mixed into syrups, often containing added flavors and preservatives. The GEL 100 is completely different. It’s a biopolymer matrix, filled with a unique blend of fructose and glucose (ratio of 0.8:1) which enables uptakes of up to 100 grams of carbohydrates per hour.
The GEL 100 is built by harnessing natural hydrogel technology and built with six natural ingredients:
Water
Glucose
Fructose
Calcium Carbonate
Gluconic acid
Sodium Alginate.
It doesn’t contain any colorants or preservatives and comes in 40g servings that contain 60% carbohydrates – a high weight to energy ratio.
Maurten Gel does NOT need water to consume it, whereas other Gels do require that you also drink water to help digest them.
Maurten Gel does contain electrolytes in the form of 85mg of Sodium per Gel.
Adam is in the Feed Kitchen for our first look at Maurten Gel 100:
So how is this "Gel" different? It's packaged in a similar one-time use packet like other gels, but that's the only thing that's the same. Its texture is more like Jello, so it's easy to take down during exercise. Unlike other gel products, Maurten Gel 100 does NOT need to be taken with water! Another bonus feature is the high glucose to fructose ratio of 0.8:1 enabling uptakes of around 100 grams of carbohydrates per hour, which is more than any other product on the market.
Safe to say...Maurten has just created a "game-changer" for the gel market.
