Glucosamine Plus, provided by Douglas Laboratories, contains a synergistic combination of glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate. Glucosamine sulfate is a well-absorbed source of glucosamine, an important predecessor for the synthesis and maintenance of connective tissues. Chondroitin sulfate also supports formation of connective tissues, primarily joint cartilage, and helps protect existing cartilage. The potassium stabilized form of glucosamine sulfate is used, making these sodium-free products.
The connective tissues include several types of fibrous tissues that connect, support, bind, or separate other tissues or organs, typically having relatively few cells embedded in an amorphous matrix, often with collagen or other fibres, and including cartilaginous, fatty, and elastic tissues.
Glucosamine is a natural chemical compound found in the body and helps keep the cartilage in joints healthy. But natural glucosamine levels drop as people age. This can lead to gradual deterioration of the joint.
Glucosamine sulfate supplements help counteract this effect. Specifically, glucosamine has been shown in some studies to help ease the pain of mild to moderate osteoarthritis of the knee. Glucosamine may also help with other joint pain caused by osteoarthritis.
Glucosamine Plus caps may be a useful nutritional adjunct for individuals who wish to support the body's connective tissues, such as skin, tendons, ligaments, bone, and cartilage.
