Live Cultures Live cultures are microorganisms that are often considered to be part of the ‘friendly’ bacteria of your gut microbiome. There are many different strains of live bacteria cultures, which have a range of sources. Some of the first strains of live bacteria cultures were discovered at the turn of the 20th Century, when the fields of bacteriology and microbiology were first starting to come into their own. Our Capsules contain: Inulin - dietary fibre found in many plants. Bifidobacterium lactis - found in the large intestine. Lactobacillus rhamnosus - found in the intestinal tract, first isolated in the 1980s. Lactobacillus plantarum - found in milk and fermented vegetable products, e.g kimchi, sauerkraut. Bifidobacterium longum - found in fermented foods like yoghurt, one of the first strains present in the gut after birth. Lactobacillus acidophilus - found in the gastrointestinal tract and the mouth, grows in very acidic environments. Lactobacillus reuteri - a major component of the bacteria found in the gut, first discovered in the early 1900s. Bifidobacterium breve - found in fermented cheese and the gut.
