Description
WHAT IS L-CARNITINE USED FOR? L-Carnitine is considered a non-essential amino acid because, unlike essential amino acids, it is not used for protein synthesis nor as a neurotransmitter. Its main function is to help transport fatty acids into the mitochondria where they are burned as fuel for the body, producing the energy molecule ATP. ATP is a major source of energy for the muscles. Since L-Carnitine is not found in vegetable protein, vegetarians are more likely to be deficient in L-Carnitine than non-vegetarians.
