Fisherman's Friend lozenges were first created in Fleetwood Lancashire in 1865 when the town was the centre of the UK fishing industry. James Lofthouse a young pharmacist developed a strong liquid using menthol and eucalyptus which the fishermen took to help relieve the ailments on their long voyages in freezing conditions. Later this liquid was developed into the well-known lozenges that today are loved around the world in over 80 different countries. Fisherman's Friend is still produced in its home town of Fleetwood.
